I hate to admit it, but I was convinced that the trend for affordable designer collections/collaborations had been pretty much ‘done’, and that even the most avid of fashion fans were beginning to tire of these somewhat cut-price ranges. With reams of high profile, super luxe designers lending their fashion expertise to popular high street stores, it was a great way for everyday people who couldn’t afford the real thing to get their hands on a designer label, but does it still have the appeal it once did? Well, it appears I was wrong and it certainly does, as while we await H&M’s next mega-designer collaboration, I have been rather excited by a brand new handbag collection by legendary, eccentric fashion designer Zandra Rhodes. Renowned for clothes as bright as her hair (the iconic, if slightly mad pink bob), the collection of arm candies is fun, vintage-inspired and unique. Launching August in Fenwick stores check out my story for AoL’s fashion website uk.stylelist.com for more details (http://uk.stylelist.com/2010/06/14/zandra-rhodes-to-launch-handbag-collection/).
As you might expect from Zandra, it’s certainly worth getting carried away by this range which is as affordable as it is designer – and available on the great British high street. All of which goes to prove that our hunger for affordable designer fashion is still very much being satisfied.
